The National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) on June 03, 2026, has announced a new format for accreditation certificate numbers to make them more informative and easier to identify.
The following has been stated:
The revised numbering structure incorporates details such as the accreditation field (Testing, Calibration, Medical, etc.), month and year of accreditation grant or renewal, and the State/UT code of the accredited body. For international Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs), the code “GL” (Global) will replace the State/UT code.
To ensure continuity and traceability, NABL will mention the previous certificate number alongside the new one. The revised certificates will also indicate the accreditation cycle number and revision number, enabling easier tracking of renewals and subsequent revisions. Additionally, accreditation history will be maintained on certificates issued under the new system.
Accredited bodies may continue using their existing certificate numbers until the revised format is implemented in NABL’s software systems or until existing printed stationery is exhausted, subject to a maximum transition period of six months.
